BUCKLE

Unique ID: WMID4683

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

The buckle frame is a 'D' shape with an integral sub-rectangular plate. The loop of the frame is hugely expanded and obliquely angled. This is decorated with obliquely angled ridges. The integral plate has a small hole through which a pin is curled around. The pin is bent at the mid point. The plate tapers slightly towards its terminal, which has a circular rivet hole. The face of the plate is decorated with a central linear ridge and oblique grooves. The reverse is undecorated. There are traces of gilding on the upper face of the plate.

A parallel can be found from Shenley Church End, Buckinghamshire, in Riddler (in Mynard 1994; fig. 92, no. 1). A further example described only as being a Cambridgeshire find can be seen in Hammond (2014, 41; fig. 1.2-h). See also WAW-B2391B, NMS-5ACFA3, LVPL-0E5AD1, SUR-738F74, NMS-F44A35 on this database, possibly also BH-302417 and NMS-1C6BE0, NMS-883545, BUC-E25937 and BUC-303D07 are similar, but not identical.
