Object type certainty: Certain

Cast cu-alloy belt clasp or sword belt mount dating from the late medieval or early post medieval period, i.e. c. AD1400-1600. The mount is complete but the surfaces are very worn. The mount is composed of two elements: a cast cu-alloy ornamental folded over strip of metal and large iron rivet that would have held the mount in place. The folded-over cast cu-alloy strip was oblong-shaped with a plain terminal on the reverse and a more decorative terminal on the obverse. The obverse terminal is leaf-shaped with a moulded rim and small fleur-de-lys. The rim frames what looks like a floral pattern, but the iron corrosion of the rivet is too thick to be certain about the motif.
