Only part of the rim and one of the characteristic 'spikes' survive. The dish was undecorated, but there are some mouldings and thin grooves on the inside and outside. The spike is triangular in plan with a trapzoidal cross-section.<\/p>\n\n<p>Chafing dishes were domestic utensils made of metal or earthenware for holding burning charcoal or other combustible material. This was then used to cook food or keep it hot at the table. This particular fragment is from a B2 chafing-dish.
