CLASP

Unique ID: LANCUM-0BDCB1

Object type certainty: Certain

Cast cu-alloy stock clasp/belt clasp dating from the late post-medieval or early modern period, i.e. c. AD1600-1800. It is one half of a set of clasp, this one having a rectangular perforation instead of a hook. It is butterfly-wing-shaped with three rivets on the reverse, at the opposite end of the rectangular perforation, and a stamped decoration on the obverse. The stamped decoration is composed of circlet-filled ribbons. It could have possibly been a stock clasp that was attached to one side of a thick leather or horse-hair neck guard (military).
