TREASURE CASE : 2011 T109.
Description:
A gold finger-ring of late medieval date, probably 15th century. The bezel is formed from four petals of a flower, possibly intended to represent a rose. Engraved decoration on the petals may have originally held enamel. A small rod which now protrudes from the centre of the bezel may have originally held a pearl, now missing. The hoop of the ring is circular in section and is decorated on both sides with a series of 13 small spiraling designs which may represent cut branches. The hoop and bezel are now both misshapen. No direct parallels could be found.
Discussion:
In terms of age and as the object comprises a minimum of 10% precious metal contain it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
