This piece of bone inlay appears to be complete with no broken edges. It is a long, thin piece with one short, angled, straight edge, and one curving long edge. The other two edges have been decoratively carved to follow the lines of the pattern carved into the front surface. The front surface is decoratively carved with a scrolling foliate pattern. The reverse of the long curved edge has been chamfered and the reverse surface of the inlay has been randomly scored to help attachment of the inlay to the box or chest. John Clark identified this object as part of decorative bone inlay that would fit into a wooden box or chest and probably dating 14th - 15th century. A similar fragment of bone inlay was also found during the open weekend LON-E8A6F6. Dimensions: length: 60.05mm; width: 16.07mm; thickness: 2.22mm; weight: 2.36g.
