KILN FURNITURE</objecttype>
<descriptions>
<description>
<full>A Post Medieval ceramic fragment of London Stoneware kiln furniture: incomplete shelf dating 18th century. This shelf fragment has flared edges creating an elongated H cross&#45;section (width of shelf 40.80mm, edges flaring to 71.45mm); Roy Stephenson notes these shelves are known as &quot;girder shelves&quot;. A thick green glaze covers the majority of the surfaces and there are circular pads of clay which were used to stead and separate the vessels during firing. The surface is also vitrified in areas. This fragment probably came from the kilns in the Lambeth area.

Dimensions: length: 163mm; width: 185mm; thickness: 71.45mm; weight: 2022.7g.

Identified by Roy Stephenson Medieval and Post Medieval pottery specialist.</full>
