2011-02-02 14:50:18 Robert Collins rcollins 2011-02-02 14:51:00 Robert Collins rcollins NCL-96F2A0 SPEAR A set of at least three cast copper alloy conical sockets, possibly spear sockets, that is part of a larger iron-corrosion aglomeration, probably of 6th century date, and possibly part of an Anglo-Saxon burial. The sockets are obscured by iron agglomeration, and the appearance of the sockets are also that of iron, but the differential preservation and partial presence on an X-ray indicates a copper-alloy production. One socket is more clearly visible than the other two, for which only the open base can be seen. Maximum length is 64.38, diameter is 11.92mm and thickness is 1.82mm.
