This button has a circular, dished (concave) head and integral square shank. The shank is orientated slightly off-centre on the reverse. There seems to be a casting flaw in the outer surface of the shank as the metal is pocked by air bubbles and is roughened. The front surface is decorated with radiating lines of rocker arm decoration (zig-zag lines) and there is a border of a pair of parallel concentric lines running around the edge of the button. The copper alloy has a bright yellow appearance due to its deposition within a riverine environment.

Ian Smith provided the dating for this button based on his extensive knowledge and experience and the context within the foreshore in which it was found.

Dimensions: thickness: 9.25mm; diameter: 18.86mm; weight: 4.13g.

"datefound1":null,"datefound2":null
"numdate1":"1450","numdate2":"1550

A late Medieval - early Post Medieval copper alloy button (1450-1550).
