PILGRIM BADGE</objecttype>
<descriptions>
<description>
<full>A Medieval lead alloy fragment of a pilgrim badge of St George dating 15th &#45; early 16th century. The badge shows St George, dressed in armour and riding on horseback, thrusting a lance into the gaping jaws of the dragon, whose tail is entwined round the horse&#39;s hind legs. This fragment includes the body of the horse, the lower body of St George in armour and a section of the body and wing of the dragon. On the reverse of the badge there is the catchplate to secure the pin which was orientated horizontally across the badge.

Spencer (1998:188) illustrates a very similar and more complete badge no. 206d.

Dimensions: length: 25.42mm; width: 19.83mm; thickness: 1.39mm; weight: 1.41g.
