PILGRIM BADGE</objecttype>
<descriptions>
<description>
<full>

A Medieval lead alloy incomplete pilgrim badge probably 14th century. This openwork fragment includes the upper peak of the pointed frame decorated with a central pelleted cross, scrollwork and foliage. One side of the frame is also present but broken from the main section. This side is decorated with pellets within lozenges. The central scene shows a bearded figure receiving something from a higher figure. This higher figure may be an angel as they have a halo and the suggestion of wings. The lower section of the scene and the frame are missing. A small section of the pin remains on the reverse.

John Clark suggests this may be a version of a badge depicting St Alban with the Saint&#39;s disembodied head on the left and the executioner to the right.

Dimensions: total length: 39.91mm; total width: 39.04mm; thickness: 1.72mm; weight: 4.15g.

Identified by John Clark Medieval Curator Emeritus, Museum of London.
