See North number 1998. The coin has been pierced by punching a hole in the centre of the flan fom the reverse, with the removed metal being pushed onto the front of the coin. Pierced coins can be considered as potential Treasure if they have been modified so they are no longer a coin, but an artefact. Although this coin is pierced, there is no further evidence to suggest that it was removed from circulation and used as jewellery, so it has not been decclared as potential Treasure.
