<description>
<full>An Early Medieval (late Saxon) copper alloy stirrup strap mount dating 11th century. This stirrup strap mount is a Williams Type A, sub&#45;triangular mount. At the apex of the mount is a fleur&#45;de&#45;lys motif forming a tri&#45;lobed projection; the body of the mount is a pointed oval shape and there are two lobes projecting from either side of the lower point. At the base there are the remains of the flange which extends along the entire length of the base. The front of the mount is decorated with a cast pattern comprising a symmetrical scrolled pattern. The mount is quite worn with a red brown patina. There are two perforations just above the flange; one in each of the two projecting lobes; they are aligned along the length of the flange. A third perforation is located in the centre of the fleur&#45;de&#45;lys motif at the apex. Traces of iron corrosion within the perforations and on the reverse of the mount are probably the remains of the iron rivets or possibly from the iron stirrup.

Dimensions: length: 57.55mm; width: 28.79mm; thickness: 3.63mm; weight: 29.59g.
