A fragment from a cast copper-alloy Roman bow brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth Group 4, flat wing ends type), Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b, 4c, Plate 46 . Only the head survives and the brooch is in poor condition. The wings were open at the back to hold the pin mechanism and slight moulding above what remains of the wings suggests this may have been a Polden Hill brooch, although this is a little uncertain. The remains of an attachment lug for the spring is visible at the top of the bow. The bow does not appear to have been decorated. The brooch is likely to date to the late first to second centuries AD. It measures 15.47 mm long, 12.97 mm wide across the wings, 8.41 mm thick at the head and weighs 2.4 grams. It has a worn grey to brown patina with areas of green corrosion at the breaks.
