A Late Early-Medieval (11th century) copper alloy openwork stirrup strap-mount in the Urnes style. It does not fit with a published Williams type, but would probably be included with his Class A. It has iron staining on the reverse, suggesting the missing rivets were of iron. It measures 49.58x40.15x9.83mm and weighs 33.59g.
The stirrup strap-mount is triangular in shape with a circular piercing at the top (with a raised concentric rib around). All original patina is missing to the front, but detail is visible in the form of three curlicues on either sloping side. The openwork decoration inside the rib defining the triangle, is assymetrical with several rounded curves. The openwork takes the form of 14 circular holes and 6 oval holes.
The strap mount bears a resemblance to Williams' no.486, which is rather more symmetrical than this example.
