The object is incomplete, possibly fragmentary, and bears considerable damage from corrosion, and possibly also exposure to fire or heat. The object is sub-rectangular in plan with a broken end and a tapered, rounded end opposite. In section, it is D-shaped, with a thinner lug or plate emerging perpendicularly from the underside. This lug or plate is incomplete. The object may have been a mount, or a number of other types of object, but its present state makes identification uncertain. However, it was found within 1 meter of a fragment of a small long brooch of the 6th century, suggesting a possible Early Medieval date.
