A fragment of a late-medieval silver finger-ring. The stump of flat-sectioned hoop that expands to form sub-triangular shoulder before a broken oval or circular bezel, the stone missing. There is elaborate engraved decoration on the shoulder comprising an owl within leaves and curling fronds. Date: 14th or 15th century. Dimensions: Width of band 5 mm, width of bezel at break maximum 18.5 mm. Weight 0.96 g. The age and precious metal content of this item therefore qualify it as treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Steven J. Ashley
