MOUNT
Unique ID: NCL-458428
A cast copper-alloy mount of Medieval to Modern date.
The mount is circular in plan and D-shaped in section. Approximately 25% of the mount is missing from one side, providing a clear view of the object in section. The face of the convex mount is irregular and appears somewhat facetted, and there is an oblong depression in its centre. The underside indicates it was roughly cast and unfinished, with a thickening of the centre area on the underside. The break appears to have been chopped initially, and then bent to complete the break. The break is old, but the quality of the metal is high enough that the break has retained relatively sharp edges.
The original function of the mount is unknown.
