COIN

Unique ID: SF-C35A06

A silver Roman half-siliqua, anonymous issue, c.367-394 AD. Reverse: X V within a wreath. As Bendall, 2003: no. 3.

In a forthcoming note on these anonymous 4th century half-siliquae, Roger Bland notes that the vota reverse may be significant in terms of the dating of these issues, potentially linking it to the 15th anniversay of Valentinian II (388-389 AD) or the 15th anniversary of Theodosius II (392-393 AD). These were coins struck in small quantity during the latter half of the 4th century, although it remains uncertain precisely why they were issued.
