<notes>Sir William Babthorpe is recorded as having owned the manor of Osgodby until 1622 following its passing to the Babthorpe family in circa 1440 (British History Online, 2010). Given the inscribed initials and corresponding date it is possible that this seal matrix belonged to Sir William Babthorpe.
Numerous examples of silver seal matrixes are reported as Treasure each year including 2009 T27 (SUSS-8A6B12).
In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
