An incomplete copper-alloy Medieval thimble (c. 1400-c. 1500). The curved sides slope inwards from the bottom. It has a slightly domed apex. However, part of this is missing due to damage. The walls have slightly oblique lines of sub-circular individually punched indents. A circumferential groove divides the indents from the bare apex. Two large notches opposite each other on the rim are probably related to the manufacturing process. The outer face has a mid-brown patina. A large patch of corrosion is a result of active bronze disease. The inner surface is covered with superficial light green corrosion products. Height: 16.4mm; diameter: 18.0mm; thickness of walls: 0.9mm. Weight: 5.89g.
