A fragment of a cast copper-alloy early Anglo-Saxon (or Anglian) cruciform brooch. The fragment comprises part of the head plate and one knob, probably the top knob. The head plate has been badly damaged but retains its broadly rectangular shape. There is a raised central panel which is edged on either side with punchmarks, probably annulets. The surviving knob is half-round with a flat-topped basal moulding decorated with two fine grooves, and a further fine groove at the base of the rounded terminal. The moulding and terminal are divided by a broad groove. The metal has a mid reddish-brown colour and is slightly pitted. It dates to the 6th century AD. Length 28.7mm, width 31.4mm, thickness 4.4mm, weight 7.3g.
