<descriptions>
<description>
<full>A fragment of a cruciform brooch of early&#45;medieval date. The fragment is the projecting knop either from the wing or top of the head of a cruciform brooch. From what would be the front of the brooch the knop appears bulbous with a rounded terminal. Opposite this point the knop narrows before extending into a double collar. From the reverse however the knop is flat. The break is well worn and features slot, this slot is filled with corroded iron, this iron pin would have held the knop onto the brooch head.
The metal is a dark brownish&#45;green colour and is worn.
A similar example can be seen in EAA 84, p.164, fig.47, no.15.
