FINGER RING</objecttype>
<descriptions>
<description>
<full>TREASURE CASE: 2010 T514.

An incomplete silver finger&#45;ring. The bezel of the ring has a raised border, but this survives only where it narrows to the shoulders, since much of the edge, probably originally curved, has broken off. Enough of the bezel survives to suggest that its original shape was pointed&#45;oval. The outer face of the bezel has a series of horizontal striations and the reverse is flat and undecorated; there may originally have been a separate setting in the bezel.
The border of the bezel narrows to the shoulders and then continues to form the hoop, which is circular in cross&#45;section and is decorated with a series of transverse ribs. The interior of the hoop is worn, and the ribbing does not continue on the internal surface.
Discussion:
The ribbed hoop and the pointed&#45;oval bezel can be paralleled by SWYOR&#45;3BC897 (Treasure cast 2009 T448), which has Trewhiddle&#45;style decoration dating it to the 9th century AD.
In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
Dimensions: Weight: 1.7grams. 20.4mm x 2.1mm.
