A complete silver-gilt dress fastener of post-medieval date. The dress fastener is formed from two hemispheres joined to form a hollow spherical ball with a projecting circular attachment loop. The fastener is decorated with an openwork design and multiple pellets arranged in concentric circles radiating from a central point. A double banded filigree rope-work collar is present where the two hemispheres join. A further two bands of filigree are present on each hemisphere from which some of the pellets project.
From one hemisphere a centrally placed attachment loop projects with a narrow D-shaped section.
Traces of gilding survive on the decoration and the loop. Much of the openwork design is now infilled with soil remnants from its deposition.
