Silver Finger Ring

Date: 16th - 17th Century

Description:
A complete silver-gilt posy ring of post-medieval date. The posy ring is circular in plan with a chunky D-shaped section. There is no evidence of a join on the hoop. The exterior of the ring is undecorated though some patches of gilding remain. The interior is inscribed with the text •BETRVE IN HART which is written in Roman capitals lettering. A crude pellet stop is present before the inscription. Both the interior and exterior of the posy ring are badly tarnished and very worn.

Discussion: While this ring is difficult to date precisely similar posy rings with varying internal inscriptions of a religious nature are common in the 16th -17th Centuries.
