These sherds form part of a collection of 60 sherds of Roman and Medieval pottery that was submitted for identification in November 2009. These reports detail the finds and fabrics and where possible, dates and wares.
1) Rim sherd from a probable jar or flagon. Sandy fabric with small stone inclusions. Frequent black and red iron oxide fragments. Grey core orange to grey outer. Slightly burnished. Locally produced; Dorchester or Abingdon, Late Iron Age to early Roman c.50BC - AD100.
2) Body sherd of a probable jar in a gritty, large grained sandy fabric. Mica inclusions visible. Core of vessel is grey with a slightly pinkish hue. Uncertain, but probably locally produced. AD 75-199.
3) Base sherd from a jug or jar. Hard sandy fabric with occasional mica inclusions. Externally the vessel coating is a slightly dark brown / red hue. Internally the vessel has large horizontal ridges. Probably Oxfordshire, but also possibly Hampshire? AD 75-199
4) Small base sherd from a probable jar. Hard fabric with occasional black iron oxide flecks, mica also visible. Some larger quartz stone fragments visible within the fabric. Off-white core, grey outer. Locally produced grey ware AD 75-199
