A mount or weight. A very thin (less than 0.5mm thick) cast square, one face with a counter-relief black-letter S and a narrow bordering line at the outer edge. There is no visible means of attachment. Perhaps 16th century. Weighs 4.6 grains, equivalent to 0.29grams or 0.0105 oz.

Consequently, due to its age and precious metal content, this item qualifies as Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
