Buckle
Unique ID: WAW-4E3CF6
An incomplete double looped rectangular buckle made from cast copper. One complete loop, strap bar and fragment of the second loop remain. In plan, the loop is sub-oval with an expanded loop at hte apex. The strap bar is narrowed and is semi-circular in section. The loop is decorated with oblique grooves of varying lengths. t The reverse is obliquely angled and undecorated. The pin is missing. The buckle loops has traces of a dark grey/green patina. The buckle measures 20.68mm long and 18.62mm wide. It weighs 1.9g.
Whitehead (Whitehead, R. 1996 Buckles 1250-1800 Greenlight Publishing) illustrates similar shaped and sized buckles, Nos. 269-295 and dates them broadly to the mid 15th to mid 17th century.
