Post Medieval gold finger ring 22mm in diameter, the bezel is 13.14mm diameter and 3.85mm thick, and weighs 3.97grams. The ring consists of a plain gold band with oval bezel, with empty setting, the setting has a dogtooth border taking up most of its surface. The setting contains remains, possibly of the original stone or adhesive? 'The dogtooth border was popular for ring settings over a long period in the later 17th and 18th centuries. Without any more diagnostic features it is not possible to confirm that this is more than 300 years old. ' BM Curator Judy Rudoe The ring did not therefore constitute treasure.
