Copper alloy

Book clasp fragment (identification by finder). A pair of thin cast rectangular plates secured at one end by a single rivet of length 3.9mm and diameter 2.2mm. At the other end, both plates bear stubs where they were folded over a hinge (now lost). The outer plate bears four vertical letters or parts of letters, and it appears this may be cut from a larger object bearing a legend. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1400-1500.
