COIN
Unique ID: LANCUM-553730
Early Roman copper denarius of Julia Domna dating from c. 196-211, possibly votive. RIC 4 (Julia). 574.
A metallurgical analysis would be useful to see if there is any silver present. If it is entirely of base metal, then its purpose will certainly have been votive. A number of similar examples from the Maryport area were recorded (in the Netherhall collection; not the PAS database), though they have since disappeared.
