"390228","SUR-165672","PAS4BF165670014A2","STAMP","","","","","","","","1","10.390","","POST MEDIEVAL","1800","1860","A circular lead military stamp of early to mid- 19th century date. The stamp has a pierced dome on the back for suspension. On the front the serifed letters have been carefully carved out using a knife leaving them upstanding with a roughly cabled frame. Across the centre is a soldier's number 5185 (in mirror image) and around this his name and regiment, W.FRENCH around the top half and 37 REGT around the bottom half. Both halves of the encircling inscription are the same way up and both are again in mirror image and in upstanding relief. The face of the seal bears the remains of what appears to be black ink within its hollows, and the object is presumably a soldier's personal seal or stamp for identifying his belongings. The 37th Regiment is the Hampshire Regiment.","","","2010-05-17 16:48:55","2011-08-25 12:11:29","4","1","1","2010-03-01","","W.
