Unique ID: DEV-2CB814
Early Medieval copper alloy strap end. The strap end is Thomas Class A; type 2, with a tapering plate, split attachment end and zoomorphic terminal (Gabor Thomas, 2003, FRG Datasheet 32). The geometric incised decoration on the front of the plate is worn, but appears to be in the form of four diamonds, each arranged with its point to the centre, as if forming four ‘petals’. The animal-head terminal is difficult to discern due to wear, but a pair of ears, or possibly eyes are visible. At the end of the terminal are two small holes, possibly representing nostrils. The two copper alloy rivets are intact at the split attachment end. Date: 9th century. Dimensions: 29 mm x 10 mm x 1.2 mm.
