PIN

Unique ID: YORYM-5BA2F0

A complete and well preserved cast copper alloy pin, probably dating to the middle to late Anglo-Saxon period (AD 700 – 1000). The pin has an angular biconical head. The top of the pin head is flat, while the first part of the biconical shape is facetted. Below this there is a wide band around the pin head, from which the tapering conical lower part extends, there is a collar under the pin head. The pin head measures 6.6mm in diameter. It then extends into a narrow pin shaft. The shaft has a lozenge shaped section, it is bent about two-thirds of the way down, it terminates with a sharp point. The pin shaft measures 2.4mm in width. The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and most of the original patina survives.
