An Early Medieval (late Anglo-Saxon) - Medieval copper alloy enamel cloisonn\u00e9 disk brooch (late 10th - 11th century). The brooch is constructed from a base-plate of copper alloy sheet with seven equidistant rounded projections; a copper alloy collar has been soldered onto this base plate and set within the collar is the cloisonn\u00e9 enamel pattern. The pattern is marked out by copper alloy cells and comprises a five petalled flower against a blue enamelled background. The petals of the flower are infilled with white enamel and in the centre there is a circular cell infilled with yellow enamel. On each of the projecting lobes a small collar of copper strip is soldered, each would secure a glass sphere, however none of these spheres remain. On the reverse of the base-plate are the remains of the twin lugs which would have secured the pin. The pin and catch-plate are no longer present. There are also large areas of gilding remaining on the reverse and on the collar.<\/p>
