Post Medieval French base silver douzain of Louis XIII (1610-1643) or Louis XIV (1643-1715), mint mark and date illegible, c.1610-1660. The coin has an enriched silver surface and may be a contemporary copy. The coin is chipped around the edges and abouta fidth has been lost to large chips from one side.
Notes:
Low value french coins are not uncomon finds in Britain, especially on the south coast and near ports. Douzains of Henry III, Henry IV, Charles IX or Charles X are more common. Many Loius XIII examples are actually unofficial issues minted by the Hugonauts during the civil wars.
