BUTTON AND LOOP FASTENER

Unique ID: YORYM-B508F0

An incomplete cast copper alloy object dating from the late Iron Age to early Roman period, possibly a button and loop fastener or a slide strap. The object comprises a plate of copper alloy with a wide rim on the front, with a central circular motif, with a raised cross formed from uprights of copper alloy. These lines therefore create four quadrant cells each one has been infilled with enamel. Two opposite quadrants are a mid orangey-yellow enamel, alternated with a duller mid reddish-orange. On the reverse of the rim are two parallel raised scars, which appear to be break scars, from the larger attachment. The metal is pitted and is a light greyish-green colour.
