{"recordID":"353","finds":[{"created2":"2001 07 19","description":"Cast copper-alloy penannular ring. Triangular-sectioned, with a very pronounced ridge at the apex, an outer diameter of 26mm, an internal diameter of 13mm and with a gap of 3mm between the two terminals. Slight abrasion on the apex. Faint scratch marks all over one surface. Very dark green\/black patina on one side; the other side is dark green, mottles with pale green and is preserved in an excellent condition. Penannular rings are most commonly found in gold or with a precious metal cover over a base metal core. Large copper-alloy examples are rare finds and were in contemorary use with the more common smaller gold and gold-plated composite or single, circular-sectioned penannular rings which date from 1300-750 BC. A copper-alloy example was found at Runnymede Bridge, Berkshire (unpublished. This object has been published by Sally Worrell in Hampshire Studies 2002.
