<descriptions>
<description>
<full>Cylindrical head surmounted by a loop which is mostly missing. The catchplate remains largely intact behind a moderately flared foot. Pin missing. The bow is decorated with a column of four triangular cells on either side. These are likely to have held coloured enamel, though no trace now survives. Much of patina missing, especially on the decorated area on mid&#45;bow. Large hole in cylindrical head.A similar but undecorated example was found at Fishbourne (Cunliffe 1971, 104 no. 38 fig. 39). Knee brooches are a Continental form, possibly originating in the Rhine area of Germany. There is a preponderance of finds in northern Britain. Enamelled examples are not particularly common. One example with two spots of red enamel inset into the bow near the head was found at Aldborough, North Yorkshire (Bishop 1996, 52 no. 309 fig. 30).</full>
