The top and bottom are missing due to old breaks. In the bottom left hand corner there is a secondary circular perforation, this follows the continental pattern of attachment using stitching loops (rather than the usual English pattern of using an integral pin). The front face depicts a seated figure in robes, holding a fleur-de-lis headed sceptre in the left hand and an unidentified object in the right (possibly a gospel book). The legend probably read, SILLVM SCE/AEDGAR.REG(IS), 'the sign of Edgar saint and king'. The back is plain. A lead pilgrim badge, (??)rectangular in shape, measuring 32mm in length and 22mm in width. Presumably Edgar the Peaceful, saint and king (943-75), who was instrumental in establishing the Minster at Winchester, and buried at Glastonbury Abbey. This is probably a relatively early souvenir from the latter (it appears to be the first recorded souvenir for this cult).
