The headplate is semi-circular with an intergral semi-circular knop at its apex. There is a partial knop remaining on the left of the brooch and the knop from the right is completely missing. These breaks on the headplate are heavily worn. The headplate is decorated with a large, central ring and dot motif, comprised of three rings. Three smaller ring and dot motifs surround the central design, and are positioned approximately in line with the loaction of the three knops, however the one to the right is less precicely placed. The bow is undecorated, narrow and long. It joins the head and footplates with simple horizontal moulding. The lozenge shaped footplate has a large, central ring and dot motif of three rings, with a smaller off centre ring and dot motif above and below it. The condition of the reverse of the brooch is unknown. This is possibly of Continental origin, or else an Anglo-Saxon immitation of H Kuhn's mainly north Germanic Breitenfurt type. Similar to a recent metal-detector find from the South Downs (Sussex) which Kuhn dates to c.550-575. B Ager thinks this date is rather late for Kent.
