RING
Unique ID: YORYM-E70276
Object type certainty: Certain
Treasure case No : 2010 T106
Gold finger ring or fitting (?)
Date: Undiagnostic
Description:
A gold ring of uncertain date. The hoop of the ring has been bent and distorted out of shape. The section is rectangular, but the corners are crude and slightly rolled. There are no decorative features on the internal or external surfaces of the ring and there are no inscriptions, joints or markings. The external surface has a slightly raised central line, which is chamfered to the edges.
Discussion:
The uneven edges of the ring may indicate that this is a fitting rather than a finger-ring. The ring has been metal tested by a jeweller (through the finder); the acid test measured it as 18ct gold. The date of the ring is undiagnostic, as there is no evidence to securely date it to pre-1710, as such it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
