The head plate is sub-triangular, and it is decorated with 5 rings surrounding circular holes. A narrow hook projects from the apex of the plate, and most of the hook still survives. There is a V shaped nick in the centre of the straight edge opposite the hook. The tag has a light grey green patina. It has a length of 22.45mm, width 11.78mm, thickness 0.76mm, weight 0.75g. Similar examples are SF-1B9D23, BH-3DF955, NMS-3404C0 on the PAS database which date from he 8th – 11th century, with a 9th century date being most likely. See also West (1998) page 121, number 37. This object and the attached records were recovered from a site which may be the location of an Early Medieval moot site, though later disturbance makes the site difficult to interpret. Archaeological work including trial trenching in advance of development has not yet revealed any further evidence. Most of the finds recovered through metal detecting are Early Medieval; material of this date is rare in West Yorkshire.
