<description>
<full>An Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) &#45; Medieval bone pin&#45;beater dating AD720 &#45; 1100. This pin&#45;beater is cigar&#45;shaped with two working tapered ends; it has an oval cross&#45;section with one flattened surface. There are two shallow depressions one on the upper edge near one end and one on the lower edge near the opposite end. The surface of the pin&#45;beater is highly polished from wear against the hand and against the threads of the loom. There are some longitudinal scratches across all the surfaces and there is a little damage to one end.9

Dimensions: length: 111.94mm; width: 9.21mm; thickness: 5.98mm; weight: 7.57g.</full>

<notes>Rogers (1997:1755): &quot;The pin&#45;beater is a multi&#45;purpose weaver&#39;s hand&#45;tool, used to strum across the warp to even out spacing, to pick out misplaced threads and to push the weft loosely into position before beating in more firmly with another tool... They are firmly associated with the warp&#45;weighted loom and disappear from the archaeological record at much the same time as clay loom&#45;weights.&quot;
