An Early Medieval silver coin: penny (sceat) of the VERNVS type, group 2, dating 710-750AD. This is a Class E bird or porcupine/standard variation. Metcalf vol. 1 p. 146 fig. C from Dover is similar which may be a Kent/Sussex type. Gareth Williams notes: Distribution is inconclusive, with a small group spread from Suffolk down to Sussex and West Kent.

Obverse: degraded/stylized bust resembling a porcupine or a bird.
Obverse inscription: None
Reverse: Standard pelleted square containingTToTT with a blundered legend around the edge.
Reverse inscription: Blundered.

Dimensions: diameter: 12.06mm; weight: 1.17g.
