A copper-alloy La Téne III style brooch of 10 – 100 AD. The bow is flat and undecorated with a rectangular cross-section. It is 4.41mm wide and 1.05mm thick. At the head the bow turns down by 90 degrees and then curves upwards to form the start of the spring, of which only two turns on the left of the brooch survive. The spring has an external diameter of 8.25mm and internal diameter of 3.70mm. At the tail end of the bow a relatively large triangular catch-plate survives although the return is missing. The catch-plate is 12.51mm long by 8.78mm and 1.04mm thick. Overall dimensions: length 40.45mm, width 5.77mm, height 12.54mm and weight 1.86g. See Hattatt, R. 2007 (p.290, fig.149, item 243, 244, 736 & 1452) for a similar example. This is not a Nauheim brooch as that type always have “an open catch-plate” Worrell, S. (unpublished ‘Late Iron Age and Roman Brooches’ p.2). This brooch is a Nauheim-Derivative which was popular in southern and eastern England, which fits well with the find location of Cambridgeshire.
