Elaborate hook from furniture, cast in the form of the head of a bird, possibly a heron, incised ring-and-dot for both eyes, narrowed snake-like body cast with cable moulding and looped with splayed projection with corroded remains of inserted iron fixing. 61 x 30mm (length excludes corroded remains of rivet). Cf. identical although fragmentary examples from Hales (Norfolk HER 21515) and Horning (Norfolk HER 8446), formerly described as a Roman spoon or vessel handle in the shape of a heron. Late 17th-18th century.
