STRAP FITTING

A cast copper-alloy strap fitting, possibly for a sword belt, of Post-Medieval date. It has a flat plate that is constricted at its centre with moulded scrollwork motifs to either side. Pendant from the plate is a single D-shaped loop that is D-shaped in section and with a slightly expanded outer edge. To one end the plate has a projecting terminal that is semi-circular in form with a projecting terminal knop. The front face of the terminal is decorated with a single fleur-de-lis within a scrollwork motif. The entire object measures 33.81mm in width, 23.66mm in length/height, 3.06mm in thickness, and weighs 5.51g. This belt fitting is of Post-Medieval date, probably belonging in the 16th-18th centuries AD.
