Tile
Unique ID: BERK-F70724
Object type certainty: Certain
A decorative Medieval or early Post-medieval tile. The tile is handmade in a clay fired to a pale yellow-orange colour and has numerous mixed stone inclusions and iron specks. The reverse of the tile is smooth, while the obverse details arched columns in raised relief. These curving columns are made from additional clay strips added to the surface of the tile in rows of three. This tile appears to have been one in a series.
The tile measures 86.53mm long, 72.72mm wide and is 21.45mm thick. The tile weighs 244.9gms.
Notes:
This is an unusual tile and may have ecclastical origins. It is likely this is a wall tile rather than a floor tile.
